Brickanize works without an account, and your collection lives on your device. This page explains what does leave your device, and why.
Your collection and your backup
The sets you add, their condition, and quantities are stored on your phone, and the app works offline. If you're a premium member they're also backed up to our server, so you can get everything back on a new phone or after a reinstall. That backup covers the bins you create and the names you give them, which sets are in each one, how many sealed and how many opened copies you have of each, and the catalog details we show for those sets. Your wishlists back up the same way. All of it is tied to your account.
We delete the backup when you delete your account. If your premium lapses and you don't renew, we delete it about 30 days later, and after that whatever is on your device is the only copy. Renewing inside those 30 days keeps it. Without premium we don't hold a copy of your collection.
Accounts are optional
Signing in unlocks premium features and uses Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. With Apple we request no personal details at all. With Google, the sign-in service (Firebase Authentication) receives the email address and name on your Google account as part of how Google sign-in works. Our own account record holds none of that: it's a random identifier, which premium features you have, and your early-adopter number if you claimed one.
You can delete your account in the app (Account, then Delete Account), which removes your account record and everything backed up to our server, collection and wishlists both, right away. One thing is kept after deletion: a one-way hashed code derived from your sign-in identity. It exists so the early-adopter lifetime-free offer can't be farmed by deleting and re-creating accounts, it can't be turned back into who you are, and if you ever return it restores your original early-adopter spot. Purchases
Premium subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed entirely by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We never see your card or payment details. Our server keeps a record of which products you own (the product, order identifiers, and dates) so your premium unlocks reliably and follows your account across devices.
Photos you take to identify a set
When you use photo identification, the picture is sent to our server and forwarded to Google's Vision service to recognize the set. The photo is used only to answer that one request. We don't store it, build a profile from it, or use it for anything else.
Searches, barcode scans, and prices
Set searches, scanned barcodes, and price lookups are processed by our server so the app can show you catalog data and market values. These requests aren't tied to your identity and we don't keep a history of what you searched or scanned. Set data comes from Brickset and price data from BrickLink.
Beta sign-ups
Our website doesn't collect anything to join the beta. You pick your platform and we send you straight to Apple TestFlight or Google Play, where you join with your existing app-store account. We never see your name or email.
Usage statistics and crash reports
The app collects basic usage statistics (like which screens get used) and crash reports through Firebase so we can fix problems and see what's working. These aren't tied to your account or used to identify you.
Ads
The free version of Brickanize shows ads through Google AdMob. Buying any premium option removes them completely. The ads are always non-personalized: every ad request the app makes is flagged that way, so your ads are not based on a profile of you, and the app never asks to track you across other apps or websites. The first time the app runs you may see a consent prompt (required in some regions). To show an ad at all, Google's ad system receives basic device and request data under its own privacy policy.
Notifications
If you turn on notifications, your device gives us a notification token, which we store with your account so we can send you sale alerts for sets on your wishlist. It identifies the device, not you, and it is removed when you turn notifications off, sign out, or delete your account.
Links to shops
When the app sends you to LEGO.com or Amazon to buy a set, those links can carry an affiliate code, so we may earn a commission if you buy. Following one takes you to that shop, where their own privacy policy applies. We don't send them anything about you, and the price you pay is the same either way.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data, we don't track you ourselves, and we don't ask to track you across other apps or websites. Ads are never personalized, and premium removes ads entirely. The app requests camera access only for scanning barcodes and photographing boxes, and you can use search-only mode without granting it.
